Poria cocos is an edible mushroom in the order Polyporales, family Polyporaceae. It is a wood-infesting mushroom that grows mainly on wounded trees, fallen trunks, stumps and pine cone roots. It prefers pine cone. Therefore, it can be found a lot in Russia and Far East. Interestingly, it produces long-lived underground sclerotia that resemble coconuts. Sclerotia can grow up to 30 cm long and weigh more than 1 kg. The colour of sclerotia is usually light brown.
